There are a wide variety of meditation practices around today and the exponents of each belief that theirs is the truest and the best. The reality is with meditation, as with life it comes back to the old saying -

“Different strokes for different folks”

While all sentient beings are basically the same, we are also all wired a little differently and are also all in different stages of personal growth; therefore different types of meditation may suit some people better than others.

Temple

This is not good phenomena or bad phenomena, it is just what it is, it’s a phenomena.

Many people enjoy a verbally led visualisation style of meditation where the meditation leader takes you on a journey and this can cause you to become quite tranquil and relaxed.

Other people prefer a more centered breath style of meditation following the rise and fall of the diaphragm or the inhalation and exhalation of the breath on the upper lip area, this form of meditation is credited with the ability to give you peace.

Some like to meditate with conducive, ambient  music to aid with their relaxation while others prefer silence with just the sounds of nature in the background and then there are those who like to start with background music to aide them with the initial physical and mental settling and then go on to the silence of nature.

Then there are those who find that open eye meditations with optical and audible input can bring them to a state of calmness.

It is the goal of The Whitsunday Meditation Society Inc. to be able to offer a variety of meditation techniques so that our participants can find the style of meditation that fulfils their particular need at this point in their life.

We can not all meditate like a Zen Monk because we haven’t had the Zen Monk’s life experience or live his life style and we can’t all meditate like a Raja Yogi because once again we haven’t had the life experiences of a Raja Yogi or live his life style.

We are the sum total of our own life experiences, we have  the life style, life pressures that are our own so, we need that which suit us today.

Tomorrow will certainly be different because everything that has an arising today will have a cessation tomorrow or in the words of the late George Harrison -

“All things must pass”

Meditation Temple

Tomorrow’s goal will be to find what suits us tomorrow, but for now our challenge is to live and meditate in the present, to find the path that meets our requirements of today.

To this end we not only offer a variety of meditation techniques but also attempt to tailor a program to your particular needs.

Our Mission Statement:

There is an ancient saying “The Mind is Like a Windy Lake”

Thoughts buzz around inside our head and act like a wind blowing over a lake, this wind creates whitecaps on the lake and stirs up the silt on the bottom making it difficult if not impossible see what is beneath the surface.

So it is with our mind, it is so stirred up by thoughts of problems and day to day stresses that it is virtually impossible to mentally relax and gain clarity of mind and if we could mentally relax and gain that clarity even if it is only for short periods of time answers to the riddles of our life would have more of a chance to surface and present them selves to us Therefore our mission statement is simply
“To assist you to calm the waters of your mind".
